Our 3-lb packages of Italian honey bees are the perfect way to start your hives.
Each package contains 3 pounds of honey bees (approximately 10,000-12,000 bees) and a mated queen bee in her own small cage. You can use package bees to start a hive from scratch or boost the population of an overwintered hive.

Pick-Up Information
- NYC Location: The Honey House at Astor Apiaries, Astoria, Queens
- Long Island Location: Long Island Welcome Center in Dix Hills
- 2025 Pick-up Dates: To be announced (please check back for updates)
Ordering Process
- Local Pick-up Only: We do not offer shipping. Select "Pick up" at checkout to avoid shipping charges.
- Contact Information: Provide your email, phone number, and address during checkout to ensure we can communicate any updates or changes.
- Separate Orders: For purchases other than bee packages (like honey), please place a separate order.
Weather and Pick-Up Notice
Beekeeping depends heavily on weather conditions. The pick-up date is subject to change based on weather and other uncontrollable factors. We commit to keeping all customers informed of any changes. Please ensure your availability is flexible around the pick-up period.
Installation
You are required to install your bees within 24-48 hours of pick-up. Ensure your beekeeping equipment is prepared in advance.
Cancellation and Refunds
- Refund Policy: Purchases are non-refundable unless we fail to fulfill your order due to reasons within our control. Weather-related delays or your inability to pick up the bees do not qualify for refunds.
- Package Transfer: If you are unable to pick up your package, you may arrange for someone else to do so. Contact us immediately to update the new customer’s details.
Returns
Upon pick-up, packages are inspected by our Master Beekeeper. If you discover the queen is deceased when setting up your hive, document this with a photo and contact us promptly. Installation guidance is available, and we encourage you to reach out if you require assistance.
Delivery Services
- Fees: Standard House Call fee applies ($120/hr, 1-hour minimum). Travel outside New York City is billed at $60/hr.
- Scheduling: Delivery starts the week following the pick-up date. Slots are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Contact us early if you require this service.
